Surgery Time!
1. The Headstock
The focal point of the tuning system. All of the 6 strings are attached to the headlock. With out the headlock = no use guitar. Usually, if the guitar has a brand, the brand is labelled right at the open area at the top of the headlock.
2. Tuner
There is a tuner for each string. They look like little nobs that you twist to tone the guitar for the correct pitch. The strings of the guitar wraps around it for tightness, tone and stable. Tip: Be very careful when you are holding the guitar because the tuner could be only 2 millimetres off and your sound could go from a G to an A
3. Nut
The nut is that piece of plastic that holds the positions of each string. Without the nut, your guitar can't get tuned no matter what.
4. Frets
The fret is the medal mark at each section down the bridge. It is used to mark the position of the music when playing.
(The medal line that sections each bar)
5. Fretboard
Basically, it is the board in between each sectioned fret that you press on to play. Just in case if you didn't know, you play on the fret board, not the fret. (The brown board at the back.)
6. Strings
The 6 lives of the guitar. The string vibrates after pluck or strum which then echo through the sound hole to make sound!
7. Pick Guard
A guard that protects your guitar from any finger scratches. When I was younger, I had a black guitar, with a black pick guard. So I got scared because I thought it was a scratch mark that popped out. Turns out, it was to prevent scratch marks. I almost cried!
8. Soundboard
The acoustic guitar soundboard is the top piece of wood on the main body. The sound hole is cut into it. There are no sound boards for the electric guitar.
9. Pick-Ups
The Pick-ups transfer the string sound from the guitar to the amplifier by way of an electric lead. They are like little microphones.
Cool FACT: Did you know that you can in talk into a guitar pick-up and your voice will be broadcast through the amp!
The bridge is used to adjust the pitch, harmonics and string height. Electric and Acoustic guitar bridge are different!
